Ooh, I really, really loved visiting Isle of Skye. It was such beautiful, rugged, mystical scenery. Didn't have too much time to spare on this leg of the trip, so headed straight for the Scottish Highlands.
First thing we did was rent a car. Oh boy, it was such an adjustment learning to drive on the left side of the road, especially on such narrow and sometimes one-lane roads. The rental place gave me a bracelet to remind me to drive on the left. Helpful.
Wow, the scenery was just gorgeous. What a treat to drive hours along the mountainous terrain of the northern part of Scotland. Even if the roads were a little terrifying.
Visited "The Fairy Glen", where there were delightfully green, rolling hills with basalt rock formations. Climbed to top of the rocks we saw.
So cute!
Did a hike (Quirang) across the Trotternish Ridge. Led all the way out to the edge of the sea. Met lots of new sheep friends along the way!
A little further down the road we looked out onto Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, a beautiful waterfall that dropped off into the expansive ocean.
Oh my gosh, the Fairy Pools were SO pretty! So magical. Spent hours here just going up, up, up along the river and deep into where it carves out of the mountains. Did I mention it was pretty?
Also visited a nearby-ish castle, the Dunvegan Castle and Gardens.
Other than that, just kind of walked around town, keeping close to harbor. What a lovely country-side jaunt!
